Compassion  vs.  Indifference

Discussed by City Health Office, August 4, 2003

Investing whatever is necessary to heal the hurts of others

Rewards of Compassion

Favor

A person who diligently seeks the good of another will receive approval and favor of those who observe their unselfish actions.

Friendship

Becoming involved in the life of another brings a deeper level of intimacy and friendship.

Compassion in the home includes:

*   Realizing each other's needs for love and attention, and planning outings and activities to meet those needs

*   Sensing each other's need for respect and listening to ideas with an open mind

*  Seeking to understand another's struggles from his or her viewpoint and experiences

*    Being willing to give up activities that could disappoint and hurt one another

The Zebras

Unable to keep up with the herd, sick or injured zebras become easy prey to their chasing attackers. Instead of leaving them behind to face certain destruction, the rest of the herd slows down enough for everyone to stay together. With s little sacrifice from others, the hurting members are given a chance to recover from their wounds.
